Upstate Wildlife Rescue is dedicated to ensuring rapid responses and proper care to creatures big and small. Too often, unwanted guests in the yard are killed or chased off before getting the chance to be helped. We strive to change this.

Rapid Response

Our first goal upon receiving a call is to have a quick response. Unlike human patients, animals can develop a condition called capture-myopathy. This is caused by stress, whether someone has corralled them until we can arrive or they just notice people, their number one predator, watching them and knowing that they aren’t capable of escape.

Capture and Containment

Our biggest strength is in humane capture. We work with some great rehabilitation facilities that have helped us secure great tools to maximize both the animals’ safety and that of the responder. We don’t want to add any stress to an animal after we have managed to locate and go hands on, so we have made efforts to keep our transport cages sturdy but also comfortable. Our nets are made in a way that prevents raptors and other birds from getting tangled and hurting themselves. Also our snake tongs have special rubber tips to prevent lacerations caused by normal steel tongs.

Why Relocate?

One of our goals has always been educating people on the good that animals can do. Our tagline “keeping wild animals wild” originates from the main idea that it was their home first. Animals are not moving into our yards, it’s quite the opposite however, our homes are encroaching on their established territory more and more each year. When we take animals to be rehabilitated, they get the opportunity to either live out the rest of their lives as an ambassador for their species, or to return to the wilderness as nature intended.

Upstate Wildlife Rescue began as a snake removal service in Spartanburg county in 2018. Upon realizing how much of an impact we were having on both homeowners and animals, we’ve expanded into taking on most nuisance wildlife calls. As of 2024 we service 26 counties between the Carolinas and have a 0% euthanasia rate.
